NAVTEQ begins with large scale sources, like high resolution digital imagery, used to identify changes that need to be incorporated in the NAVTEQ database. Then NAVTEQ's field staff gathers information on road classifications, planned roads from multiple local and regional sources, checks data quality and then validates database information.

NAVTEQ's field data collection clearly sets it apart from the competition, with more than 1000 people located in more than 196 field offices around the world, mostly concentrated in North America and Europe.  NAVTEQ drives millions of miles annually capturing more than 260 attributes per street segment through direct observation. With NAVTEQ's Map Reporter, a web-based feedback system, customers are able to quickly report discrepancies, errors or omissions in the NAVTEQ data.
